My first blog post is usually filled with introductions and information about the beginning of school. I apologize that this blog post is not that. I will send an introductory post and tell you how happy I am to see your children, because it's true. I will tell you about my interesting job and how important special ed is to ALL students; how we learn from each other and that "fair" is getting what we *need* not what we think everyone got or should get.
Instead this post is about the Jog-a-Thon! Because it is coming soon! And, it just may be the most wonderful time of the school year.
Before I begin let me tell you I LOVE to run. I have been running for 22 years. I have done two full marathons and 8 half marathons. I try to run several times a week and it makes me feel better than any other activity I have ever engaged in. I'm not fast. I'm a slow and steady kind of girl. That is okay because I can move my body forward for a very long time and that is a beautiful thing.
Let me also tell you that I *HEART* the Queen Anne Elementary Jog-a-Thon because I get a double bonus... I get to run with my students! We chat, we push ourselves, we walk, we get passed, we pass others, we stop for water, we laugh, and we realize that things sometimes get hard and we keep moving forward. If this is not a metaphor for education I don't know what is.
Please honor this day. Celebrate. Donate. The PTSA makes great things happen with our donations. The students make great things happen because they work hard, they have fun and they raise the money. If you are able plese come and be a part of this. You can hand out sticks. You can count laps. You can hand out water. You can RUN! Or you can cheer on these amazing kids!
If you want info about donating your time or your money please contact the wonderful Kristi Barnes at [email protected] or the fantastic Karen Lonergan at [email protected] If you want information about how fun it is to run with student feel free to email me [email protected]
I look forward to seeing you on October 9th!
