Happy New Year!
We are so lucky to live in Seattle. We are lucky for so many reasons (did someone say HAWKS!?) but one thing I'm super grateful for as a teacher is the University of Washington (Go HUSKIES!). Not only did my degrees come out of the UW but my kids were fortunate to go to the Experimental Education Unit for preschool. What I know is that the UW kicks out some pretty good teachers (if I do say so myself) and we are lucky to be so close to great research that is coming out of the UW education department. I continue to have many colleagues there that I consult with monthly on best practices and ideas for tricky learning styles.
This year I am lucky to have a fantastically awesome student teacher from the University of Washington. Nick Baldwin has been at QAE since September as an intern. This quarter he is taking on full time student teaching and getting to know the ins and outs of special education in preparation for graduation in March.
For the next few weeks Nick is going to be contacting you if your student's annual IEP is due. He is to take on ALL of my responsibilities (under my supervision, of course). I'm proud to say that I have complete and total confidence in Mr. Baldwin!
I can tell you that Nick is one of a kind. He connects with kids on a level that I don't see often. If Mr. Baldwin isn't here some of my students are reluctant to work with me! Nick seems to understand kids intuitively. He is enthusiastic and always looking for the best method, curriculum or connection. Mr. Baldwin is going to be a great teacher.
Of course, the kids like to imagine that he is related to Doug Baldwin, Seahawk.
