My Goodness! Something amazing happened tonight! My donors choose project was completely funded!!! What!? I requested some great materials that equaled almost a thousand dollars and just twelve donors were able to meet this goal! I'm humbled and honored and would like to submit a very heartfelt thank you! This project and its funding means so much to me. Allow me to elaborate... Granted, my students and I will use all of the items on my donors choose wish list. These are good tools and will benefit many!! But what really warms my heart is this community. We look out for each other here at QAE! We accept and appreciate our citizens. We know that we have quirky learners in our classes. We know that there are kiddos with dyslexia, ADHD, Autism and other 'things' in our class but we love them. We love who they are despite their "disability". We love what they bring to our community and what they teach others. Thank you for acknowledging these gifts. I was reminded tonight by Mr. Elliott of a story told to me a few years ago. We have a student at our school that is a peculiar learner. Don't get me wrong, this kid is brilliant! But the methods are unconventional. A few years back a parent came to Mr. Elliott to ask if this student would continue at our school the following year. Mr. Elliott, fearing and perhaps anticipating criticism, replied, "yes, we are honored to have this student" and that parents surprised him with their comment of.. "good, my son doesn't want to come to school if this student isn't here." You see, my friends, we learn from each other. We learn great things from people who are similar to us but also from people who are different. These quirky learners teach their peers so much! They remind us of life and society and our social world and all the gifts that we gain from diversity. Thank you again for your generosity! You have donated time, money, advice, and maybe doughnuts! And it is appreciated.
I didn't even hear about the ask, but I'm so glad your list got funded immediately. The material abundance in our community is a blessing, but even more so are the approaches we take together to nurturing all our kids in their differences and their gifts. Thank you Niki. You're amazing and I'm so glad you're well-supported.
